Open Question: Europe loves Obama. Is that progress? Why anti-Europe sentiment?

The world appreciates the difference in the US elections. Obama is a part of that difference. Some think his popularity in Europe for example is a sign of Europe wanting to see a weak America followed by some kind of derogatory European sentiment. Am confused. A good chunk of Americans are of European descent and are born of people whose racism created some of today's issues. So is it progress that their descendants on both continents are impressed by someone of color? Or is it taboo to think highly of someone who like it or not is making history? Interesting points on both sides. Europe being overrun by Muslims Abe? I'm not sure Muslims in Europe is anything new, I believe without their help we wouldn't have had help with maths and science and they were once our best pals in the whole wide world. Helped Europeans plunder the world too when we weren't busy fighting them... oh nothing new then. Cedric, that research lies within my family tree. That aside it is true that the racism in the USA was unique but Europe admits to its own crimes in this area. The Chinese/African relations are also nothing new. Ivory being the "charm" that it is meant the two continents were trading long before we even knew either existed. The world knows Obama as a politician not a celebrity. I am still confused. If Mandela turned up he would draw a huge crowd. South Africans of all races are proud of that. Is there no pride that after all the stunned shock of watching GWB in action (my favorite footage is watching him wave madly at the crowds - the TV channel were unkind enough to reveal he was waving at an empty field - when visiting Blair about the time of the Iraq WMD start) that everyone seems willing to give the USA a second chance - Mc Cain will benefit from this too I'm sure.... read more
